10 Ways to Game Up Your Home
The first generation to grow up playing video games is now feathering empty nests, and plenty more gamers are buying and filling homes. Furniture and home decor companies keep adding designs catering to video game lovers, and those with a bit of time and creativity keep designing and building their own! A really dedicated gamer could furnish the entire house this way, but it’s more likely you’d want to add just one or two game touches to your home to honor that side of your personality.
1. Space Invaders CouchIf you love playing Space Invaders, you’ll also love the
Space Invaders Couch designed by Igor Chak. Just big enough for two people, it should be shared with someone who also shares your geeky interests.
2. Nintendo BeddingInstructables user rpaxton and her mother made this awesome
Nintendo Bedding Set with comforter, pillowcases, and bed skirt as a surprise birthday gift for her brother, and then posted the pictures for the rest of us to envy. However, she didn’t take photographs of the process, and we must wait until she makes another for a complete set of instructions. The good news is that someone has contacted her about commissioning a set.
3. Tetris TimerThe
Tetris Cooking Timer works almost like an electronic hourglass. As time passes, the display shows Tetris blocks falling! If the timer is going to be used by any non-gamer in the family, it can be programmed to keep time in the usual digital clock manner.
4. Pinball TowelsEtsy seller girlscantell draws and prints designs on
tea towels, coasters, and tote bags to appeal to all kinds of interests. For the gamer, check out the
pinball machine tea towel.
5. Mario Brothers ShelvingDennis and Judith built this Mario Brothers storage unit for their apartment. See
more pictures of how the shelving works, plus the warp pipe table and Mario clock they also made!
6. Mario BlanketThis 8-bit Mario blanket is made with crocheted granny squares comprising each pixel! I don’t have any information on the creator, but this was entered into the
Nintendo Craft Contest held by the Happy Seamstress Pattern Company.
7. NES Controller TableAnother entry in the Nintendo Craft Contest was this
NES Controller Game Table, hand-crafted by Jennifer for her boyfriend, which made the finals. See the eventual
contest winners, too.
8. Pac-Man Sofa ComponentsIt’s called
the Poufman living room set, from the Italian company
Qayot. There are only two pieces, but you can use them together or separately, or put more than one set together for your own seating arrangement. The colors can be rearranged as well, since they come with interchangeable covers.
9. Tetris CouchThe
Tetris Couch designed by
Stefano Grasselli is a set of eight components that you fit together -just like Tetris blocks. Put them all together for a big comfy couch, or separate them to use as chairs, stools, tables, and ottomans.
10. Space Invader ShowerLiz’s bathroom renovation included a custom shower featuring
Space Invader tiling! She said she and her husband are “both huge geeks” and designed the invaders, player ship, and mothership. The pixel mosaic is composed of glass and travertine tile. The remodel was done by
R.A. Stacy. See more pictures of the finished work in her
Flicker set.
