New York town bans pinball, shuts down arcade August 16th, 2010 2:18 am
North of New York City in the town of Beacon, video game arcades were outlawed, considered to be mafia-run rackets and "a waste of time for impressionable youths". It's almost like we're in the 50's again and pinball is rock music, just with more lights and shinier balls.
The aptly named Retro Arcade Museum, filled with vintage arcade games and pinball machines to recreate "that 70's atmosphere", has actually been ordered to close up shop or face a $1,000 per day fine, or possibly even jail time. Lawyers managed to drag up this crazy-yet-apparently-still-active law that was passed in the 1950's, wanting to keep the arcade closed because "it's noisy".
DUE TO ISSUES BEYOND OUR CONTROL WE WILL BE TEMPORARILY CLOSED. PLEASE KEEP CHECKING THIS WEBSITE FOR UPDATES AND FEEL FREE TO CALL OR EMAIL. SEE YOU ALL SOON AND THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!
SINCERELY,

We're with you, Fred, and hope this gets sorted out soon. After all, we wouldn't want you to end up with broken legs if you can't pay your dues.
